The outspoken personality, who co-hosted alongside the famed DJ Fif Laaa, addressed his exit in candid remarks during the Spreading Humours Podcast. He explained that the initial agreement was to contribute to the first ten episodes as the show found its footing, with the expectation that payment discussions would follow once momentum built.

That moment, according to him, never came.

By the ninth episode, frustration had started to set in. Swisher recalled raising the issue directly with DJ Speedsta, only to be told that sponsorship had yet to come through. With no clear path forward, he chose to step away rather than continue under uncertain terms.

He maintained that his decision was not rooted in conflict but in principle. While he supported the vision behind the podcast and praised its cultural relevance, he drew a firm line when it came to working without pay.

Swisher also pointed out that Speedsta acknowledged there was no budget in place for talent at the time, reinforcing his view that transparency and structure should come before ongoing commitments.

The fallout has reignited a familiar conversation within South Africa’s creative industry. As podcasts and digital platforms grow in influence, the long-standing tension between exposure and fair compensation is becoming harder to ignore. Creators are increasingly unwilling to trade their time and contribution for promises that may not materialise.

For OkaySwisher, the choice was clear. Supporting the culture remains important, but not at the cost of sustainability.
