Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre will on Tuesday, March 24, present what he says is the largest budget in Saint Lucia’s history, with Estimates of Expenditure totalling $2.18 billion. He confirmed the figure during a media briefing on Monday.
Pierre said the budget was crafted using oil prices available at the time, before the recent escalation in the Middle East. He noted that while the geopolitical environment has since shifted, government will update the public if adjustments become necessary.
“The geopolitical situation was not what it is now,” he said. “If and when adjustments are required, we will come to the public and inform them.”
The Prime Minister also addressed concerns about fuel prices, saying petrol will remain at $16 a gallon for the next three weeks despite a substantial decline in government revenue from petrol sales. He added that LPG subsidies will continue, though at a higher cost.
The Finance Standing Committee meets in Parliament on Tuesday at 10 a.m. At 5 p.m., Pierre, in his capacity as Minister for Finance, will table the 2026/2027 Estimates for Revenue and Expenditure.
Debate on the Estimates will run from March 25–26, from 9 a.m. each day. Government will outline its policy direction during the policy statement and budget debates on April 21, 2026.
