Residents of Windhoek, Okahandja and surrounding areas have been urged to prepare for a scheduled water supply interruption on Friday.
The interruption was previously planned for 22 May before being delayed.
The interruption is due to a scheduled power outage at the Namibia Water Corporation (NamWater) Von Bach Treatment Plant.
NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata says the power will be out from 07h00 to 18h00 to extend the 11 and 66 kilovolt busbars to a mobile substation.
He says the complete isolation of the station will directly affect operations at the treatment plant and its pump stations.
“Consequently, the pump stations will be unable to transfer water for the duration of the power outage and until power supply is fully restored,” he says.
Areas expected to be affected include the Okahandja municipality, City of Windhoek, Gross Barmen, Osona Military Base, Osona Village, Namib Poultry Industries, Okapuka Road Traffic Checkpoint, Finkenstein, Herboth’s Blick, Hosea Kutako International Airport and other customers supplied from the Von Bach Water Treatment Plant.
NamWater apologises for the inconvenience caused during the planned maintenance work, thanking customers for their understanding and cooperation.
The Windhoek municipality in a statement issued on Tuesday says it will ensure all municipal reservoirs are filled to sustain water during the affected period and minimise disruption.
“As a result, the interruption is expected to have minimal impact on residents. Residents are urged to continue using water sparingly to reduce pressure on the available supply during the period,” the statement reads.
