Prime Minister Chairs Preparatory Meeting for Vegetable Farming Campaign

His Excellency the Prime Minister, Mr. El Moctar Ould Djay, chaired a meeting on Monday at the Prime Ministry of the ministerial committee tasked with preparing for the vegetable farming campaign, as part of ongoing preparations for the launch of the new agricultural season.

During the meeting—attended by the President of the National Union of Mauritanian Employers and several stakeholders in the vegetable farming sector—the Prime Minister emphasized that advancing this sector represents a key pillar of the policies pursued by His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, aimed at strengthening national sovereignty and consolidating food security.

He explained that the government continues to support and develop the agricultural sector given its economic importance and central role in achieving food and national sovereignty. He also highlighted measures taken to this end, including tax exemptions on agricultural inputs and fertilizers, as well as efforts to promote the marketing of local products to support producers and stimulate investment.

The meeting addressed several challenges facing vegetable farming, notably product marketing, price regulation and protection, storage, and the provision of essential infrastructure and services necessary for agricultural activity, particularly electricity, water, and roads.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Prime Minister directed the implementation of practical measures, including accelerating efforts to resolve electricity and water supply issues, ending the isolation of production areas, taking necessary steps to encourage and support local producers, and expediting the resolution of land ownership issues affecting landowners.

Finally, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of sustaining these efforts and enhancing coordination among all sectors and stakeholders involved to ensure the success and sustainability of the agricultural campaign, consolidate positive results, and achieve the desired objectives.
