Quinta Brunson to Bring Betty Boop Back to the Big Screen

(AURN News) — Quinta Brunson is bringing Betty Boop back to the big screen, Variety reported. The “Abbott Elementary” creator and Emmy winner will develop and star in a feature film about the nearly century-old animated icon.

The film will explore Betty Boop’s origin and evolution, showing the creative and commercial pressures behind building one of animation’s first global icons. This would mark Betty Boop’s first starring theatrical film appearance since the 1930s.

Brunson said Betty has had a “quiet but undeniable impact on culture” and called the story refreshing, subversive and timeless. Brunson’s Emmy-winning history makes this another major move for a Black woman reshaping Hollywood through comedy, history and imagination.
