By Zoila Palma: Patriotism is in full effect across primary schools countrywide as students, teachers, parents and young entrepreneurs put the finishing touches on their preparations for tomorrow’s National Children’s Rally and Uniform Parade, as Belize celebrates 45 years of independence under the theme, “Look at Me, I Am Belize at 45.”
In communities across the country, the colors of the Belizean flag are taking center stage, with children proudly preparing red, white and blue hats, decorating bicycles and creating colorful accessories for the celebrations.
Young entrepreneurs are also getting into the Independence spirit, selling T-shirts, earrings, horns and other patriotic items as Belizeans get ready to showcase their civic pride.
The National Children’s Rally and Uniform Parade provides an opportunity for Belize’s youngest citizens to participate in the country’s Independence celebrations while expressing their creativity and love for Belize.
From handmade decorations to patriotic clothing and accessories, the preparations highlight the enthusiasm of children and communities as they mark the nation’s 45th year as an independent country.
The celebrations will continue on September 19 with National Service Day, held in honor of George Cadle Price, the Father of the Nation.
National Service Day encourages Belizeans to give back to their communities and uphold the values of unity, service and love for country that characterized Price’s life and leadership.
On September 21, 1981, the Union Jack was lowered and the Belizean flag was raised for the first time, marking Belize’s achievement of independence.
The historic moment represented the realization of Price’s vision for a free and sovereign Belize and followed years of struggle for the rights of Belizeans to vote, self-govern and build a nation of their own.
Throughout his life, Price received numerous national and international recognitions, including the Order of National Hero, Belize’s highest honor.
His legacy continues to be reflected in the values of service and national unity, while National Service Day serves as a reminder that building Belize is a responsibility shared by every citizen.
As Belize prepares to mark 45 years of Independence, the energy of its children offers a colorful reminder that the future of the nation is already taking shape—one flag, one bicycle, one T-shirt and one expression of civic pride at a time.
