By Breaking Belize News Staff: Before most residents in northern Belize were awake, security forces were already on the road.
A joint operation was launched in the early hours of Tuesday May 26th, 2026, with Corozal Road Policing and National Transport personnel teaming up for a coordinated security sweep along the Sarteneja Road corridor. The operation began at 4:00 a.m. and ran through 10:00 a.m., covering ground across several northern communities.
Officers established one strategic vehicular checkpoint at the Sarteneja Road and Progresso Junction. Over the course of the morning, approximately 90 vehicles were stopped and checked as officers screened for drugs, firearms, ammunition, uncustomed goods, illegal immigrants and transient criminals. One traffic violation ticket was issued.
Officers did not stop there. Highway patrol was conducted along the Sarteneja Road and village patrols swept through Progresso, Copper Bank, Chunox and Sarteneja Village. Vehicles were stopped and searched throughout and all appeared to be in order.
For residents of the northern corridor, Tuesday morning’s operation was a sign that officials are paying attention.
