Singapore PM Lawrence Wong jams with Thailand PM Anutin on The Beatles & Bob Dylan classics

Diplomacy got a musical encore in Bangkok this week. Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong joined Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul for an impromptu performance during an official dinner at Government House on 2 September, following the 5th Thailand-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat. With Wong on guitar and Anutin taking the microphone, the two leaders performed The Beatles' 'Let It Be' and Bob Dylan's 'Blowin’ in the Wind'. Videos from the evening showed the pair playing and singing together in a light-hearted close to the day's official engagements. The musical moment followed talks aimed at deepening relations between Thailand and Singapore, with both sides agreeing to strengthen cooperation across areas including energy and food security, the digital economy, defence, supply chains, and efforts to combat transnational crime. The two countries also welcomed a joint statement outlining a forward-looking strategic partnership and discussed closer coordination ahead of Singapore and Thailand's respective ASEAN chairmanships. For one evening, though, guitars and classic songs took centre stage — with two neighbouring prime ministers trading the conference room for a singalong.
