Saint Lucia is mourning the passing of Sir Emmanuel Neville Cenac, a former Governor General and veteran public servant whose career in national life spanned more than five decades.
Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, on behalf of the Government and people of Saint Lucia, has extended condolences to Lady Julita, Sir Neville’s children, family, friends and loved ones.
Sir Neville’s public service began in 1968 and continued through several major roles in Saint Lucia’s political and constitutional life. He served as Mayor of Castries, Parliamentary Representative for Laborie, Leader of the Opposition, Minister for Foreign Affairs, President of the Senate and Governor General of Saint Lucia.
He served as Governor General from 2018 until the end of his tenure in 2021, a period that placed him at the centre of the country’s constitutional leadership. Official biographical information from Government House also records SirNeville as having been born in Castries on November 24, 1939, and married to Lady Julita du Boulay.

In recognition of his contribution to Saint Lucia, Prime Minister Pierre announced that, following consultation with the family, Sir Neville will be accorded a State Funeral in keeping with established protocol.
The Prime Minister said the Government joins the nation in extending sympathy to Sir Neville’s family and all those affected by his passing.
