The Chief of Staff, Dr Julius Debrah, has called for continued collaboration among key stakeholders to strengthen Ghana’s justice system and enhance public confidence in the administration of justice.
He said the effective administration of justice was a shared responsibility that required cooperation among the Judiciary, Executive, Parliament, the legal profession, organised labour, civil society and the general public.
Dr Debrah made the call in Tamale when he represented President John Dramani Mahama at the Second Quadrennial Delegates Conference of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG).
He said sustained collaboration, mutual respect and adherence to the Constitution were essential to strengthening public institutions and maintaining confidence in Ghana’s democratic system.
“As Chief of Staff, I am reminded every day that policy decisions must ultimately translate into improved conditions and better services for the people. That is the standard by which our work should be measured,” he said.
Dr Debrah said as the Judicial Service continued to modernise its operations, attention must also remain focused on the people responsible for delivering justice.
He noted that while technology could improve efficiency and infrastructure could enhance institutional capacity, professional integrity and commitment remained essential to effective justice delivery.
He said the government remained committed to working with the Judicial Service and other stakeholders to improve the conditions under which justice was administered.
The Chief Justice of Ghana, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, emphasised the important role played by Judicial Service staff in ensuring the effective functioning of the justice system.
He said the work of the Judiciary extended beyond judges and lawyers to include court officers, registrars, administrators, accounts officers, information technology personnel and other staff whose contributions were essential to the smooth operation of the courts.
He said although the work of such personnel might not always be visible to the public, their commitment was crucial to the effective delivery of justice.
The Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr Abdul-Rashid Hassan Pelpuo, urged Judicial Service workers, particularly young professionals, to embrace continuous learning and professional development.
He said the world of work was changing rapidly, with digitisation, automation and artificial intelligence increasingly influencing the operations of institutions.
Dr Pelpuo said workers who continuously upgraded their skills would be better positioned to adapt to emerging opportunities and contribute effectively to their institutions.
He said technology should not only be viewed in terms of its potential impact on employment but also as an opportunity to improve productivity and the quality of services.
He encouraged continued collaboration between traditional authorities and the Judicial Service in addressing issues affecting communities.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Adam Abubakari Takorowho, represented the Northern Regional Minister, commended Judicial Service staff for their contribution to providing essential services to members of the public.
He acknowledged the important role played by Judicial Service personnel in supporting the administration of justice and encouraged them to continue serving the public with professionalism and commitment.
The National President of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), Mr Samuel Afotey Otu, called for continued support for Judicial Service staff to enable them to deliver efficient and quality services.
He said staff welfare, professional development, training and access to appropriate working tools were essential to maintaining a motivated and productive workforce.
Mr Otu urged stakeholders to sustain dialogue and collaboration on issues affecting Judicial Service staff, particularly as the institution continued to adopt digital technologies.
He assured JUSAG’s commitment to working with the Government, Judiciary and other stakeholders to strengthen the Judicial Service and improve justice delivery.
