Stephen A. Smith Has Pointed Message For ‘Goddess’ Megan Thee Stallion After Messy Klay Thompson Split: ‘Be Worthy of Being Dedicated To’

Stephen A. Smith is legendary for his hot takes on the political and sports topics of the day. But on his Straight Shooter podcast on Monday (Apr. 27), Smith took time out to weigh in on the messy public breakup between Megan Thee Stallion and NBA star Klay Thompson, which including the “Savage” rapper claiming that Thompson cheated on her during their time together.

Upfront about the fact that he has no special, or inside, insight into what caused the break, Smith seemed to plant himself firmly in Thompson’s court, saying his special episode dedicated to the drama was spurred by him wondering “why is she [Megan] telling his business?”

He opened by stating that although he loves Meg — who he dubbed a “goddess” who has done so much for America, the world and the Black community — Smith complained that we live in an “Oprah-fied” society. “There’s always some damn explanation for everything,” he ranted, noting that it “usually favors the women.”

Smith said that it was high time that “somebody had to stand up and speak on behalf of the men,” tacking on the caveat that he loves women and his sisters, but that imperfection touches all of us. “None of us are perfect, and that includes the women!,” he said, lauding four-time NBA champ Thompson for his illustrious career accomplishments and his silence so far on the relationship drama, while suggesting that the Dallas Mavericks guard’s bona fides had “some degree of influence” on Megan deeming the baller “worthy of her … partnership.”

The broadcaster explained that he was posting his special episode because he wanted to understand Megan’s goals in discussing her private business in public. “It’s simple, ladies. Your private business is your private business. Talking to your friends, talking to your inner circle, that’s one thing. Spreading it out on TMZ, Page Six for the world to know,” he said. “You’re looking for society to help you police what is your responsibility to handle. You want a man dedicated to you? Be worthy of being dedicated to.”

Reiterating that he’s a big fan of Megan’s and that he clapped up Thompson’s unimpeachable “decision making” in dating Meg, Smith questioned her choice over the weekend to post a scathing takedown of Thompson on Instagram. “Cheating, had me around your whole family playing house… got ‘cold feet’ … Holding you down through all your HORRIBLE mood swings and treatment towards me during your basketball season and now you don’t know if you can be ‘monogamous???'” she wrote, adding that she needs a “REAL break after this one.”

He also posted a statement Meg issued to Page Six in which she announced the end of the couple’s relationship, saying that “trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable” for her. “Nobody sitting here acting like the man was celibate and he was the second coming of Gandhi,” Smith said of Thompson.

And then Smith, who opined that there is “nothing better for a man than a good woman,” leaned in and spoke right into camera with a message for the “ladies,” once again emphasizing his Megan fandom before offering a lusty, male-gaze-oriented take on the situation. Sure, he likes her music, but, “damn it, when I think about her, let’s just say her music is not what’s on my mind,” he said, his voice rising into a higher register before reading off a longer list of Thompson’s NBA highlights.

“Ladies, you don’t like losers, do you?” he asked. “Don’t you act a little bit differently with winners than you do with losers?,” he added before suggesting that surely Meg knew about Thompson’s proclivity for being single before she started dating him. “How come you couldn’t just break up and go on your merry way?” he wondered. “Why is that necessary? How come we can’t have a private relationship? Then you wonder why dudes don’t want to be seen with your asses because you got to worry about if things go awry, what you going to be talking about?”

After suggesting that women may be just as likely to step out on their men, though the men don’t talk about it in public, Smith implored ladies — who he dubbed “constant embellishers” — to tell all their business. Like, for example, “if the brother did step out on you, why could it be that you wasn’t handling business?”

Megan was seen tearing up on stage during the curtain call of her appearance in the Broadway show Moulin Rouge! The Musical on Saturday (April 25) following the couple’s split; she later announced that she would be leaving the show early, after originally planning to stay on through May 17. The hip-hop star and shooting guard started dating last summer, with Megan once describing their “meet cute” first contact and calling her former boyfriend “the nicest person I’ve ever met in my life.” Earlier this year, Megan said she was “manifesting my engagement” in a video clip filmed in Milan with engaged Olympic athletes Brittany Bowe and Hilary Knight.

At press time it did not appear as if Megan had responded to Smith’s broadcast on her socials.
