THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says Monday’s homicide victim in Surrey was a man in his 30’s who had no criminal history and was not previously the target of any reported threats or extortion. He was at his place of work at the time of the shooting.
IHIT said it is working closely with the victim’s family to establish background information and a timeline leading up to the shooting.
While the investigation is in its infancy and the motive is still under investigation, investigators believe this was a targeted incident limited to a business on the second floor of the complex.
On Monday, May 4 at approximately 3:03 p.m., Surrey Police Service (SPS) frontline officers responded to calls of a shooting at a business near 130 Street and 76 Avenue. Officers located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, the man died at the scene.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) assumed conduct of the investigation and continues to work in partnership with SPS.
IHIT is seeking dashcam footage from anyone who was in the area of 130 Street and 76 Avenue on May 4 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
“This was a brazen shooting that showed a complete disregard for public safety, and it is fortunate that no one else was injured,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Investigators are actively pursuing a number of priority tasks to identify those involved.”
