Masked robbers hold up Punta Gorda bar; suspect detained, imitation firearm recovered

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police are investigating an armed robbery at a bar in Punta Gorda Town after two masked men reportedly entered the establishment and made off with cash and other items on Thursday night.

According to police, a bar manager reported that around 10:16 p.m. on October 1, two men entered the establishment on Lucille Melendez Boulevard. One of the men was reportedly armed with what appeared to be a firearm and pointed it at an employee, while his accomplice went into the cashier area and took approximately $400 in cash.

The robbers also allegedly took a pack of cigarettes and an employee’s black and grey bag containing personal documents.

Police say the entire incident lasted approximately three to four minutes before the men escaped through the front door and headed in the direction of a nearby park. Both suspects had their faces and heads covered. No one was injured.

Surveillance footage from inside the establishment reportedly captured the robbery.

Following statements obtained from the manager and two other persons, police conducted a house search and recovered what investigators described as an imitation firearm suspected to have been used in the robbery. A Punta Gorda Town resident was subsequently detained pending investigation.
