Tanzania bolsters its preparedness to respond to Ebola outbreaks in its western borders

KATAVI: THE Ministry of Health, through the Emergency and Disaster Management Unit, in collaboration with the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), CIHEB Tanzania through the Global Health Security Project, and various health sector partners, has continued to strengthen the country’s preparedness to respond to Ebola outbreaks.

The efforts are being implemented through collaborative supervision and practical training for health workers serving in Emergency Medical Departments (EMD) and Intensive Care Units (ICU).

The training was conducted at Tanganyika District Hospital in Katavi Region, with the aim of building the capacity of health workers in early identification of suspected Ebola cases, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), infection prevention and control measures, as well as safe provision of healthcare services to patients.

Through the programme, the government aims to enhance the professional capacity of healthcare providers in order to improve preparedness, efficiency, and quality of services during public health emergencies, while ensuring the safety of both patients and healthcare workers.

The training is being conducted through a close mentorship and workplace-based learning approach, enabling health workers to effectively apply emergency care guidelines and procedures while sharing professional experiences.

The initiative is part of the national programme to continue strengthening the capacity of health workers across the country, with the goal of improving the ability of healthcare facilities to respond to various public health challenges and emergency situations that may arise.
