Tanzania, Canada cement their economic relations zeroing in on trade, clean energy, critical minerals

OTTAWA: TANZANIA and Canada have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening economic relations, with particular emphasis on trade, investment, clean energy, critical minerals and infrastructure development.

The emphasis was made during a courtesy call by Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Canada, Joseph Sokoine, on Yasir Naqvi, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and to the Secretary of State for International Development.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Sokoine outlined Tanzania’s priority areas for attracting Canadian trade and investment, including agriculture, critical minerals, clean energy, infrastructure and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs).

He also highlighted Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, underscoring the government’s commitment to creating a conducive business environment for Canadian investors and companies seeking to explore economic opportunities in Tanzania.

The discussions also focused on expanding market access for Tanzanian products in Canada. The two sides explored ways of strengthening cooperation through the Trade Facilitation Office Canada, while also expanding collaboration in skills development, education and investment promotion.

For his part, Naqvi expressed his readiness to support Tanzania’s economic diplomacy initiatives, including facilitating engagement between Tanzania and relevant Canadian institutions and stakeholders.

The engagement comes as Tanzania continues to place greater emphasis on economic diplomacy as a means of expanding export markets, attracting capital and technology, and developing strategic partnerships in sectors critical to national development.

The meeting concluded in a warm and constructive atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to deepening the longstanding relationship between Tanzania and Canada through trade, investment, innovation and sustainable economic development for the mutual benefit of both countries.
