By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two Mexican nationals who were reportedly travelling through Central America selling ornaments were escorted to the Belize-Mexico border after pleading guilty to an Immigration offense in Belize City.

Ramon Lara Suarez, 52, and Crispin Suarez Suarez, 32, both vendors of Pueblo, Mexico, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. They were each charged with one count of failure to produce a valid permit to an Immigration Officer on demand.

The men pleaded guilty and were each fined $1,000 plus a $5 cost of court, which they were ordered to pay immediately. In default of payment, they faced six months imprisonment. Both men paid the fines.

The Belize Immigration Department also applied for a removal order, which was granted by the court. Following the proceedings, the cousins were escorted to the Mexican border and released back into Mexico.

According to the facts presented, the men were first detained by Customs Officers at a checkpoint in Belize City while travelling in a pickup truck reportedly loaded with ornaments. The men were not charged in relation to the alleged uncustomed goods, but authorities later determined that the vehicle was not registered in their names.

The men were handed over to police and then to the Belize City Immigration Department after they were unable to produce valid documents showing that they were legally in Belize.

In an interview with Immigration authorities, the cousins reportedly said they had entered Belize five to seven days earlier to sell ornaments. They also said they had travelled from Mexico through Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua before arriving in Belize.
