CALGARY Police said on Monday they are working with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) to investigate two shootings that occurred over the weekend, which are believed to be related to an ongoing series of extortions happening in the city.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., on Sunday, February 22, two unknown individuals attended a residence in the 8400-block of Saddleridge Drive N.E., and fired several gunshots into the residence, before fleeing the scene in a white sedan.

The next night, at approximately 12:10 a.m., on Monday, February 23, an unknown offender attended a residence in the 300-block of Savanna Park N.E., and fired several gunshots into the residence. The offender fled on foot.

No injuries were reported, and at this time, it is unknown if the same offenders were involved in both incidents. Investigators believe these incidents have ties to the ongoing extortion series targeting South Asians and police continue to work collaboratively with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams to identify potential suspects.

“These incidents are extremely concerning, and we are committed to working together with our law enforcement partners to stop these individuals,” says Deputy Chief Asif Rashid of the CPS Bureau of Investigative Support. “Offenders are using fear-based tactics to target members of the South Asian community and we will not allow them to intimidate Calgarians. If you receive threats or have information, please come forward. We are here to support you.”

Since the beginning of 2025, 28 extortions related to this series have been reported in Calgary, including 13 shootings. To learn more about this series, including how to report to police and crime prevention information, visit Calgary Police’s website.
