Uganda Launches 1Gbps Broadband as Savanna Fibre Expands High-Speed Internet Access

Uganda has stepped into the high-speed internet space with the launch of 1Gbps fixed broadband, marking a major upgrade to its digital infrastructure and signaling the country’s growing role in Africa’s connectivity landscape.

The rollout, introduced in Kampala by Savanna Fibre Internet,  is expected to accelerate innovation, investment, and economic growth by delivering faster and more reliable internet access. It reflects a shift toward scalable, high-performance connectivity that supports modern digital demands.

The impact is set to span key sectors such as education, fintech, digital media, remote work, and public services, while also enabling emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and automation. The move aligns with national priorities led by the Uganda Communications Commission to expand quality broadband access and improve service delivery.

Savanna Fibre says the initiative is part of a broader effort to make high-speed internet more accessible and inclusive, challenging the notion that premium connectivity is limited to a select few. As the company continues to expand its footprint, the new offering is expected to strengthen Uganda’s participation in the global digital economy and support a more connected, knowledge-driven future.
