The son of Uganda’s president, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who also serves as Uganda’s chief of defense forces, in the last 24 hours has issued warnings to the Middle Eastern country of Turkey.

  • Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s chief of defense forces and the president’s son, has issued warnings to Turkey amid worsening bilateral relations.
  • He announced on X a plan to end all diplomatic relations with Turkey within 30 days, coupled with threats to block Turkish Airlines.
  • Kainerugaba's statements are strongly pro-Israeli, marked by religious sentiments and promises to send Ugandan troops to support Israel.
  • He has also issued social media tirades against Iran, belittling its military and invoking religious supremacy.

His comments, as seen on X, are a result of a deteriorating relationship between Uganda and Turkey surrounding their geopolitical differences.

The pro-Israeli Ugandan general, who also stated that the Iranian army does not stand a chance against Uganda, after promising to send 100,000 Ugandan soldiers to defend Israel, promised: “to terminate ALL diplomatic relations with Turkey within the next 30 days."

His sentiments on X have primarily been pro-Israeli, wrapped with religious sentiments and promises to aid Israel in its war in the Middle East.

As a result, Iran has been a key subject in his social media tirade.

“I have about 500,000 war-hungry young men. All they want is money. They'll eat that Tehran for free,” he said in a tweet.

“However great Iran thinks it is...it is NOTHING! Until they acknowledge the SUPREMACY of JESUS CHRIST!” he said in another.

Iran’s embassy in response seems unfazed, even going as far as poking jokes at the Ugandan military chief.

Addressing Turkey, the Ugandan military chief stated, I! We are going to end ALL diplomatic relations with Turkey in the next 30 days,” he wrote.

In a separate post, he added: “We shall block their Airlines too!”

“For Turkey, it's a really simple deal...either they pay us, or I close their embassy here. They can reciprocate and shut our embassy in Turkey as well. No problem,” he said.

Additionally, Kainerugaba criticized Turkey's regional role by citing his prior combat experience in Somalia.

According to him, Uganda operated in Mogadishu between 2007 and 2011 with assistance from the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, whereas Turkey only started operating in the area later.

The remarks gave the conflict a geopolitical and historical component.
