Villa earn narrow win against Lugazi

SC Villa secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Lugazi on Wednesday as the two teams faced off in Najjembe.

The Jogoos scored very early in the game through Frank Ssebufu and eventually saw out the scoreline to keep within the title race.

The lanky forward got the solitary goal in the third minute of the game, lobbing the ball beyond goalkeeper Allan Batali who had moved off the line.

A long pass from Barasa Mangoli found David Owori at the edge of the box but he was taken out by Juma Ssajjabi only for the ball to find Ssebufu and the forward hit it instantly beyond goalkeeper Batali.

Ssebufu had an opportunity to double the advantage in the 30th minute but he was denied by the Lugazi goalkeeper.

Midfielder Aslam Ssebufu too came close to scoring the second goal for the visitors but he missed from close range.

On the other hand, Lugazi’s best chance came at the stroke of halftime but goalkeeper David Lukwago stood tall to deny the hosts.

SC Villa eventually defended resiliently in the second half to secure all three points. The win takes them to third place on 48 points.

Lugazi on the other hand remain 13th on 20 points, only five above the drop zone.
