IN an act of sheer cruelty, a 32-year-old woman from Mvurwi in Mashonaland Central delivered a bouncing baby girl, strangled her to death before shoving the body in a shallow grave.
Police confirmed the incident which led to the arrest of Thandiwe Kangara last week.
“The ZRP confirms the arrest of Thandiwe Kangara (32) in connection with a case of infanticide which occurred on March 4, 2026, at Chihwe Village 2 Farm, Mvurwi,” police national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi said.
“Investigations by police revealed that the suspect allegedly gave birth alone to a baby girl and subsequently strangled the infant with her hands before burying the body in a shallow grave about 10 metres from her homestead.
“The matter came to light after a juvenile who had returned from school noticed that the suspect’s pregnancy was no longer visible and alerted a relative, leading to further inquiries.”
The case was reported to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Vivelkia Post on March 5, 2026, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The infant’s body was exhumed and taken to Guruve Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.
