20 police officers complete Mandarin Language and Culture course

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Twenty police officers have successfully completed a Mandarin Language and Culture Course at the National Police Training Academy following more than three months of study.

The course, which began in May, focused on Mandarin language skills as well as cultural awareness, with the aim of helping officers better communicate with Mandarin-speaking residents and visitors in Belize.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Commissioner of Police Dr. Anthony Richard Rosado highlighted the importance of communication in policing, noting that successful interactions begin with effective communication and that trust is essential to building lasting relationships between the police and the communities they serve.

Taiwan’s Ambassador to Belize, Amino Chi, congratulated the officers for their dedication and perseverance, saying that even a few words of Mandarin can help provide reassurance, improve communication and strengthen trust.

Participating officers also shared reflections on their experiences during the course.

Special recognition was given to Mandarin instructor Angelina Dong for her dedication throughout the program.

The initiative forms part of continued cooperation between Taiwan and Belize, with both sides expressing their commitment to strengthening community ties through language and cultural exchange.
