53 Farmers complete Ya’axché’s Farmer Field School programme

By Zoila Palma:  Fifty-three farmers from communities across the Toledo District have completed Cohort 1 of the Farmer Field School (FFS) under the Sustainable & Inclusive Belize (SAIB) project.

The farmers received certificates in recognition of their commitment to sustainable and climate-smart agriculture on August 20, 2026.

The farmers who participated in at least six intensive training modules were recognized for completing sessions covering Smart Farm Financing, Sustainable Water Management, Sustainable Soil Management and Conservation, Agroforestry, Integrated Pest Management, Fire Management, Disaster Risk Management, and Occupational Health and Safety.

The training provided participants with practical knowledge and tools to strengthen the resilience of their farms while promoting the protection of Belize’s natural resources and biodiversity.

The Farmer Field School approach emphasized hands-on learning to help farmers apply sustainable practices directly within their communities and agricultural operations.

Ya’axché Conservation Trust implemented the programme in southern Belize with support from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
