*A surprising connection between sports and music emerged as Anthony Hamilton opened up about the early backing he received from basketball legend Michael Jordan during the formative years of his career.
Speaking on “Club Shay Shay,” Hamilton explained that Jordan played a meaningful role behind the scenes as he worked to establish himself in the music industry. He said Jordan contributed financially to parts of his journey, particularly supporting touring efforts and other career-related expenses. He also noted that the relationship included personal gestures, such as receiving sneakers over time.
“Michael Jordan supported me from day one. A lot of the tours and stuff, he sponsored a lot of things for me. And I’ve been getting some Jordans from him,” he said, per Fadeaway World.
Hamilton rose to prominence with his 2003 album “Comin’ From Where I’m From,” and follow-up project, “Ain’t Nobody Worryin’,” earned a Grammy Award. According to the R&B crooner, Jordan’s involvement was not a short-term gesture but something that stretched across the early stages of his career development. That support helped provide stability while he continued building momentum in the industry.
In 2015, Hamilton took part in a Jordan Brand event that featured a design competition. He was part of a winning group that reportedly included NBA players Kawhi Leonard and Carmelo Anthony. As part of the reward, participants were given the opportunity to design custom Air Jordans. Hamilton chose a chocolate brown and gum color scheme, a combination he felt had never been used before. The resulting design became a standout within Jordan Brand’s highly exclusive history of player exclusives.
Hamilton’s story reflects a career shaped by persistence and early belief from unexpected places. Jordan’s quiet support, he says, came at a time when it mattered most, helping him build a foundation that eventually led to long-term success.
