Belize City Council welcomes 5th cohort of Youth shadow council

By Zoila Palma:  This week, the Belize City Council welcomed the next generation of leaders.

Mayor Bernard Wagner and the council introduced the 12 young leaders selected to serve as the 5th Cohort of the Belize City Youth Shadow Council.

The newly appointed Youth Shadow Councillors participated in an orientation and introductory session designed to prepare them for the exciting journey ahead.

During the session, they had the opportunity to meet their assigned elected Council Members, learn more about the work of the Belize City Council, and gain insight into the objectives, expectations, and responsibilities of the Youth Shadow Council Program.

As the only functioning municipal youth council of its kind in Belize, the Youth Shadow Council continues to provide meaningful opportunities for youth leadership, civic engagement, and personal development.

The council said that through this program, young people are empowered to develop their leadership skills, contribute to community development, and gain firsthand experience in local governance.

The Belize City Council congratulated the remarkable young leaders as they embark on a year of learning, service, advocacy, and growth.
