Belize City man fined $305 for stealing security guard’s $500 bicycle after Jah Vinci concert: Says things ‘meh deh happen fast’

By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City mechanic has been fined after pleading guilty to stealing a $500 bicycle from the Sir Barry Bowen Municipal Airport earlier this week.

Forty-two-year-old Tyrone David Miller, of Fern Lane, appeared unrepresented before a Magistrate in Court #5 on Wednesday, where he pleaded guilty to a single count of theft.

The charge arose from an incident on Sunday, August 2, 2026, when a 21-year-old security guard reported that his 24-inch female-frame Hurricane bicycle had been stolen from outside Maya Island Air at the Municipal Airport.

The security guard told police that he arrived at the airport around 12:50 a.m. and secured the bicycle with a lock. When he checked for it around 2:20 p.m., it was missing.

Surveillance footage was reviewed and reportedly showed a man moving the bicycle at around 6:30 a.m. before riding away in the direction of Admiral Restaurant. Police later detained Miller, who matched the description of the person seen in the footage.

In court, Miller immediately admitted the offence and asked for leniency, noting that the bicycle had been recovered the same day with his assistance.

Miller, a first-time offender, told the court he had been socializing at the Municipal Airport that night because a Jah Vinci was performing there and “things meh deh happen fast”.

The Magistrate imposed a non-custodial sentence, fining Miller $300 plus $5 in court costs. He has until September 30, 2026, to pay the fine or face two weeks in prison.

No compensation order was made because the stolen bicycle was recovered.
