Boat crashes into train bridge pillar in Maple Ridge

MAPLE Ridge RCMP said on Wednesday that they are currently investigating an overnight boat crash.

On Tuesday, June 2 at approximately 8:15 p.m., RCMP attended Kanaka Creek Park in the 23200-block of River Road for a report of a boat that crashed into a train bridge pillar on Kanaka Creek.

Officers on scene learned that four male occupants of the boat were on board when it crashed. Three of the occupants were transported to hospital, one with more serious injuries. All injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Officers secured the scene and spoke with numerous individuals including the operator of the boat. Police also liaised with several agencies including CPKC and Transport Canada.

Maple Ridge RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of the investigation. The cause of the crash is still being investigated. All factors are being considered.

Our officers will be out patrolling throughout the summer ensuring boaters are being safe so that everyone can enjoy their time on the water.”
