Came to slay! Bafana anthem jacket turns heads
Drip is forever? Bafana Bafana have been praised for their fashion statement in their 'anthem' jacket at the FIFA World Cup opening match.
While Bafana Bafana have, debatably, made a disastrous debut in their opening match at the FIFA World Cup against Mexico, they have been credited with making a fabulous, fashionable appearance, particularly in their “World Cup Anthem” jacket.
The unreleased Adidas jackets have been trending on social media.
BAFANA MAKE FASHIONABLE APPEARANCE
Whilst Grammy-winning singer Tyla dazzled fans with her performance of the South African national anthem, the Bafana squad caught the world’s attention with their fashion.
Sporting their yellow and green home kits, the players also donned an unseen item, the “World Cup Anthem” jacket in silver.
The jacket features Adidas’s Climacool system, which was designed to lower core body temperature and improve players’ heat tolerance in humid conditions, particularly in the host cities of the FIFA World Cup across the US, Canada and Mexico.
The unreleased garment has already been getting rave reviews on social media.
Football publication Plaatik posted of the garment: “After all the gorgeous colours of the opening ceremony, South Africa’s metallic silver retro-futuristic anthem jacket stood out.
It added: “Not the greatest result for South Africa in the opening game of the World Cup, but at least the drip didn’t disappoint”.
While the “Anthem” jacket has not yet been released publicly, Bafana revealed that the trendy garment was up for grabs in a fan competition.
NEXT UP – OUT OF THE GROUP STAGES
All eyes will be on Bafana Bafana, not just for fashion, but to perform against the net FIFA World Cup Group A opponent.
South Africa will play Czechia on Thursday, 18 June at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
A week later, the national team will return to Mexico to face off against South Korea at the Estadio BBVA in Monterrey on Wednesday, 24 June.
For them to make it out of the group stages, Bafana must either finish in the group’s top two positions or be one of eight countries with the highest third-place score.
