Experience the magic of a live orchestra without even having to pay a cent.
Cape Town, South Africa (08 April 2026) – Good news, Cape Town! The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra is heading out into the community to perform two free concerts in Bellville on 19 April and in Brackenfell on 3 May.
Supported by the City of Cape Town, the two concerts will be led by Plumstead’s own Jason Atherton, fresh off his win as the CPO’s 2025 SA Conductor champion.
Both programmes will bring something for the whole family to enjoy, with light classics and iconic Hollywood film scores. The best thing? They’re totally free of charge. The idea behind these free performances is to make it easier for everyone and anyone to experience a live symphony orchestra in their own community.
Especially for young people. When they see the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, a group that performs on global stages playing in their own space, it makes a high-level career in the arts feel achievable rather than out of reach. For the community, it’s a chance to come together and share in something positive. The world needs more of that right now.
“In recent years we have presented concerts in communities from Ocean View to Khayelitsha, and it is always inspiring to see the warmth and enthusiasm of these audiences. We are deeply grateful to the City of Cape Town and local councillors for helping us bring this music to more people.” says Adriaan Fuchs, CEO and Artistic Director of the CPO.
If you’d like to attend, the concerts take place at 4pm at the Bellville South Town Hall, Kasselsvlei Road, Mimosa on 19 April and the Brackenfell Town Hall, Paradys Street on 3 May.
