Cape Town announces a 10-hour power outage on Tuesday
Residents in parts of Cape Town will face a planned 10-hour power outage on Tuesday as the city conducts essential maintenance.
Residents in Beacon Valley, Cape Town, should prepare for a full-day power outage on Tuesday, 21 April, as the city conducts critical infrastructure maintenance.
The planned outage will run from 8:00 to 18:00, affecting multiple substations in the area. The city says the work forms part of ongoing efforts to ensure a reliable electricity supply network.
Planned maintenance across key substations to cause power outage
The city confirmed that the interruption will impact areas supplied by several substations, including Bentley, Trampoline, Cricket, Judo B, and Ludo. The city emphasised that only the areas reflected on official maps will experience the outage.
According to the City, “the interruption to supply will only impact the areas on the maps and only on the relevant dates.” This targeted approach aims to limit disruption while allowing technicians to complete essential upgrades.
The maintenance is expected to proceed as scheduled throughout the day, provided there are no unforeseen delays. However, residents should remain flexible in case conditions change.
Safety warnings for residents
The city has urged residents to take precautionary measures during the outage period. One key warning highlights the unpredictability of power restoration times.
“The electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must please treat all electrical installations as live for the full duration of the planned maintenance work,” the City said.
To prevent damage when electricity returns, residents are encouraged to switch off appliances ahead of time. Power surges can occur when supply is restored, posing a risk to electronic devices.
City apologises for inconvenience
The City acknowledged the disruption the outage may cause and reassured residents that the maintenance is necessary for long-term service stability.
“The city apologises for any inconvenience caused while the essential maintenance is being carried out,” the city said.
Residents have also been thanked for their patience as teams work to strengthen the area’s infrastructure.
