DAR ES SALAAM: The Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA) has urged Tanzanians to take advantage of the ongoing Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Sabasaba) to learn about investment opportunities and begin investing in a wide range of capital market products.

Speaking at the exhibition, CMSA Public Relations and Public Education Officer, Stella Anastazi, said the authority is the regulator of Tanzania’s capital markets sector and is responsible for approving various investment products, including shares, bonds and collective investment schemes.

She said CMSA also licenses institutions and companies that provide investment services. These include fund managers, who establish and manage collective investment funds that enable members of the public to invest jointly, as well as stockbrokers who assist investors in opening investment accounts, provide professional investment advice, and buy or sell shares and bonds on their behalf.

Stella noted that CMSA also established the Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX), a digital commodity trading platform that enables agricultural produce and other locally produced commodities to be traded with buyers within and outside Tanzania. She said the platform has continued to help farmers and traders secure reliable markets, enhance the competitiveness of their products and improve their incomes.

According to her, public response at the CMSA exhibition booth has been overwhelmingly positive since the trade fair opened, with many visitors seeking investment education, opening investment accounts and receiving assistance in resolving various investment-related challenges.

She added that all capital market services are available at the CMSA pavilion through the participation of key industry stakeholders, including the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), licensed stockbrokers, the Tanzania Mercantile Exchange (TMX) and collective investment fund managers.

Stella also urged investors to update their personal information, including telephone numbers and bank account details, to avoid delays in receiving dividend payments. She emphasized that dividends that remain unpaid due to outdated or incorrect information are not forfeited but are paid in full once investors update their records, even if the dividends have accumulated over several years.

She further called on members of the public who have not yet visited the CMSA booth, located within the Ministry of Finance pavilion, to do so before the trade fair concludes on July 13. Visitors, she said, will have an opportunity to start investing, receive professional investment advice, resolve investment-related challenges and learn about the licensing procedures required to participate directly in Tanzania’s capital markets sector.
