By Zoila Palma: On July 2, 2026, the Institute for Social and Cultural Research (ISCR-NICH) was present at the 20th Belize Archaeology Symposium, hosted by the Institute of Archaeology at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel.
Throughout the symposium, outreach efforts highlighted ISCR’s work in Living Heritage, Public History, and Research and Education, while engaging with researchers, students, and members of the public on the importance of safeguarding Belize’s cultural heritage.
In addition, ISCR reminded researchers that, in accordance with Belizean law, all research involving human participants conducted in Belize requires a research permit issued by ISCR-NICH.
Visitors also had the opportunity to learn about the Belize Food Heritage Project, an ongoing initiative that works alongside communities to document and safeguard Belize’s diverse food traditions, knowledge, and livelihoods.
ISCR is also preparing for the upcoming Belize Food Heritage Workshop in the Cayo District.
