*For months, social media has been buzzing with accusations that Dr. Cheyenne Bryant’s doctorate credentials are fraudulent – and on May 12, she stopped by The Breakfast Club ready to address the controversy.

According to her website, Bryant holds a doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University – an institution that has since closed – as well as a Master’s degree in Marriage, Family, & Child Therapy. She made clear she has no interest in mounting a public defense of her academic background. “I have multiple degrees, and I’m not going to prove anything to anybody,” Bryant said on the radio show, per BOSSIP. “My obedience is to God, not to people,” she added.

Detractors on social media alleged they were unable to find any trace of her dissertation or paperwork verifying the degree, branding her a fraud and a scammer. Bryant acknowledged that Argosy was a fully accredited institution both when she started and when she finished her program, but said the problems began when she went looking for her transcripts years later in preparation for law school – only to find the school had already shuttered.

“I said, oh, well, they got to have records. I mean, they were accredited when I attended the school. They were accredited when I finished the program. I go and look, there is a third party that has the records where I contact the third party. That third party only holds records for two years,” she explained, noting she had missed the retrieval window.

When financial aid offered a full tuition refund, Bryant turned it down – concerned the refund would erase credit for every program she had completed. She was able to retrieve some academic files through the Argosy student portal, though much of the remaining documentation was no longer accessible.

On the suggestion that her platform is built on looks rather than substance, Bryant was equally direct. “I didn’t get into this field to become famous, to become a celebrity. I got in this field because I was a little girl from the inner city who was tenacious and determined to make it out,” she said.

She saved her sharpest words for the critics, saying, “Listen, I don’t give a f–K what your narrative is. I would like you to recreate it, double down on it and run that sh–t, because I don’t give a f–k about it.”
