East African Medical Vitals (EAMV) has concluded its Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE) Week 2026 with renewed emphasis on workplace safety, employee wellbeing and organisational responsibility.
The week-long programme, which ended on May 29, brought together employees, management, external trainers and healthcare professionals for a series of activities aimed at strengthening a culture of safety within the organisation.
Activities included fire safety training, first aid demonstrations, personal health and hygiene sessions, emergency response drills and presentations on unsafe practices at the workplace.
The company also conducted a health camp featuring Ebola safety sensitisation, blood donation drives, cancer screening, as well as testing and vaccination for Hepatitis B.
The event culminated in the signing of a safety pledge by management, reaffirming the company’s commitment to protecting employees, customers, partners and other stakeholders through continuous improvement in occupational health and safety standards.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the managing director, Brian Kavuya, said workplace safety should be embraced as a shared responsibility across all levels of the organisation.
“Safety is not a one-time event or the responsibility of a single department. It is a culture that must be practised by every individual, every day,” Kavuya said.
He added that the company remains committed to creating a safe and supportive working environment for its employees.
“Our people are our greatest asset. Investing in occupational health and safety is also an investment in productivity, quality and the future of the organisation,” he noted.
According to the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, occupational accidents and work-related illnesses continue to affect productivity and employee wellbeing in Uganda, particularly in industrial and manufacturing sectors.
Studies have identified unsafe working conditions, limited safety awareness and weak compliance with safety procedures as key contributors to workplace injuries.
Uganda’s Occupational Safety and Health Act, 2006 requires employers to provide safe working environments, adequate training and systems that minimise workplace hazards. EAMV said the OHSE Week reflects its commitment to promoting awareness, prevention and accountability in workplace safety.
As the programme concluded, the company urged employees to apply the lessons learnt in their daily work and personal lives, noting that a safe workplace is essential for operational efficiency and sustainable growth
