At least five people were killed and several others injured on Saturday evening when a truck overturned along the Moroto-Soroti highway in Napak district.
The crash occurred at about 5:30 pm on August 29, at Lodoon village in Lorengechora sub-county. According to police, motor vehicle registration number UBH 543U was travelling from Moroto towards Soroti when one of its front tyres burst.
The sudden tyre failure reportedly caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and overturned several times. Five occupants died at the scene, while several others sustained injuries and were taken for medical attention.
The vehicle was reportedly carrying passengers and cows at the time of the crash. Police said the bodies of the deceased were conveyed to a mortuary for postmortem examination as investigations into the cause of the crash continued.
