Here’s why you should sign the petition to Buy Back Brixton Market

I am asking people to sign the Buy Back Brixton petition.

Not just people from Brixton.

Everyone.

Because this is about more than a market.

It is about whether communities are participants in their future or simply expected to adapt to decisions made elsewhere.

Over the years we have seen arguments about the arches.

We have seen battles over markets.

We have seen proposals for towers and major developments.

We have seen communities repeatedly asked to absorb change while trying to protect the things that made those places worth living in to begin with.

No community can stand still forever.

Change is part of life.

But people are not pawns.

Communities are not pieces on a financial chessboard.

A place is more than an asset.

It is relationships.

Families.

Businesses passed from one generation to the next.

Traders known by name.

Local knowledge that cannot be downloaded into a spreadsheet.

When I think of Brixton, I think of cobblestones, carved wood, steel rims, market stalls, shopkeepers, barrel boys, families, and the countless people who built a community long before anyone calculated its investment value.

That is why this matters.

Not because Brixton should never change.

But because the people who created its value deserve a meaningful voice in what comes next.
