HONOR X7e first impressions: A strikingly beautiful battery beast
The HONOR X7e is a stunning budget device, with an epic camera, and a battery that will save you thousands of rands.
The newly launched HONOR X7e officially landed in South Africa this July, and after a week of testing this device in and around Johannesburg, I am pleasantly surprised.
Right out of the box, the first thing that catches your eye is the striking design. I have my hands on the Sunrise Orange version, and it is a remarkably pretty phone. Even better, the packaging includes a charging cable AND a 45W power adapter – a rare and welcome treat when other smartphone brands are actively stripping these essentials away.

HONOR X7e review: Unbeatable battery and smart features
To say the HONOR X7e has an astonishing battery life would be a massive understatement. In six days of regular use, I have only reached for the charger three times. This incredible stamina is all thanks to its ultra-large 7500 mAh battery, which completely eliminates the need to carry around a heavy power bank.
When it comes to everyday performance, the phone takes a slightly leisurely pace. It is not the absolute fastest device on the market, but that is to be completely expected for its price bracket and the Mediatek Helio G81 Ultra chipset running inside.
However, it still handles my new gaming addiction smoothly; I simply cannot stop playing BlockBlast, a nostalgic flashback to the iconic Tetris (80s and early-90s babies know I’m talking about).
A camera that punches far above its weight
The absolute standout feature for me is the device’s photography capabilities. Packing a 50MP main camera equipped with smart AI features, it easily captures exceptional details. In fact, for its price point, it boasts a much better camera than my own personal cellphone, which costs about R8 000 more than the HONOR X7e.
Retailing at a decently priced R5 999, this entry-level smartphone has so far delivered top-tier value: exceptional battery life and a great camera, without breaking the bank.
While these are just my initial thoughts after a week of solid testing, a fuller, deeper review of the HONOR X7e is coming soon. I will thoroughly test the 5-star drop protection and other features to see if they hold up over time.
