Korea Story Festival draws film lovers to Accra Mall

Hundreds of film enthusiasts, diplomats and members of the Korean community last Saturday thronged the Silverbird Cinema at the Accra Mall for the 2026 Korea Story Festival.

The event, which celebrated Korean storytelling, cinema and cultural exchange, was marked by a lively and engaging atmosphere.

Organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Ghana, the festival featured two acclaimed films, alongside cultural activities, interactive sessions and entertainment aimed at deepening cultural ties between Ghana and Korea.

The six-hour programme, which ran from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., opened with a screening of The Face Reader, a historical drama about a nobleman with the ability to interpret people’s destinies through their facial features.

The film, which blended history, politics and suspense, drew strong engagement from the audience.

It was followed by A Taxi Driver, a critically acclaimed production based on the 1980 Gwangju Uprising.

The emotional drama, centered on a Seoul taxi driver and a German journalist, explored themes of courage, sacrifice and truth, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.

Throughout the screenings, patrons reacted enthusiastically to key scenes, sharing moments of laughter and reflection across the auditorium.

The relaxed atmosphere was further enhanced by complimentary Korean snacks and beverages, which added an authentic touch to the cultural experience.

A raffle draw held during the event injected excitement, with participants winning prizes such as Korean snacks and beauty products.

Attendees also took photographs, interacted with fellow film lovers and participated in various cultural activities.

The festival received support from Rafimex General Trading Co., Samyang, The Goodskn Co. and SKN Studio, whose contributions helped to ensure the success of the programme.
