Lacrosse: Drastic strides from demonstration to real competition at 2026 FEASSA Games, Uganda aims for silverware in Morogoro

With the USSSA season wrapped up, all eyes now shift to Morogoro, Tanzania, where the 2026 FEASSA Games will kick off on 15th August, 2026.

For the first time, lacrosse will feature on the East Africa Secondary Schools Sports program, and Uganda will be represented by three schools to chase the maiden regional trophy.

Muzza High School and Tororo Girls School are the girls’ ambassadors whilst Kigezi High School flies the flag alone in the boys’ section.

All three teams head to Tanzania eager to stamp their names on the first-ever East Africa schools lacrosse championship trophy and bring joy and pride to the nation.

“This tournament is historic,” said Mr. Douglas Nyakaana, General Secretary of the Uganda Lacrosse Association. “It’s testament to the growth of the game of Lacrosse in East Africa in just four years since we introduced lacrosse to USSSA national championships.”

The Morogoro games are also coming at a crucial time for Uganda’s senior program.

The Africa Sixes Championship is set for Johannesburg, South Africa, in December, and several players have already been called up to the national team training squad. Scouts will be watching FEASSA closely for more talent to add to the Sixes pool as Uganda makes its bid to feature at the LA28 Olympic Games.

FEASSA organizers say the inclusion of lacrosse reflects the sport’s rapid expansion across the region, with more schools now investing in equipment, coaching, and exposure tours.

For Uganda’s three representatives, the mission is clear: win the first one, gain experience, and return home with players ready for Johannesburg, South Africa.
