Lil Wayne Teases ‘Tha Carter VII’ ‘Coming Soon,’ But Unsure If It Will Be Next Album: ‘I Got Music for Days’
Weezy also revealed his reaction to Drake getting a portrait of him tattooed.
Less than a year after Tha Carter VI‘s arrival, Lil Wayne is already teasing the next installment of his decorated album series.
Weezy joined Wake Up Barstool on Tuesday (May 26), during which he hinted that Tha Carter VII is “coming soon,” but pumped the brakes on confirming that would be his next album, as he’s got “music for days” on deck.
“Tha Carter VII is coming soon,” he said. “I’m not sure if we going to just name my next album Tha Carter VII, but I got albums coming as well.”
Wayne then described the creative process, which includes an unidentified person or entity grabbing a bunch of songs and dictating the title, tracklist and direction of his next album. It’s vague, and unclear who he’s referring to, if he has a management team that helps him through the process or it’s his label’s choice.
“But I don’t know when, if they going to just name it Tha Carter VII or they’re going to wait for another album and name it that, you know. But I got music for days,” he continued. “What they do is they come in here and grab a bunch of songs and put a title, ‘This Carter VII. Carter VII coming soon.’ I make so many types of music and so many genres. Whenever we have different subjects as long as I have a song about everything.”
Tha Carter VI arrived last June and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 108,000 total album units. However, the project was panned by critics. Wayne’s yet to release a single in 2026.
Elsewhere in the interview, Wayne also revealed his reaction to Drake getting a portrait of Weezy’s face tattooed on his arm, which came as a surprise, but Weezy was mad he has no room left to return the favor. “He’s a surprising type of guy. He really love surprises,” he said of Drake. “He loves surprising people. So yes, he definitely surprised me. It was amazing, I was mad I didn’t have no space to get him.”
Lil Wayne’s gearing up for a busy summer, as he’ll be hitting the road for a North American tour celebrating more than 20 years of Tha Carter series. He’s also set to launch a podcast with WFAN radio personality Craig Carton, The Joint Venture, which will debut with a live episode at Fanatics Fest in NYC on July 19.
