The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force has confirmed that a Choiseul man was granted bail after being charged with three drug-related offences following the discovery of cannabis “plantations” during a police operation late last month.

On December 29, 2025, officers attached to the Gangs, Narcotics and Firearms Unit (GNFU), Southern Detachment, along with personnel from the Choiseul Police Station, executed a search warrant in Martin, Choiseul. The operation reportedly led to the uprooting of 5,580 cannabis plants and the seizure of 7.3 kilograms of cannabis from the residence of 41-year-old Delecus Alphonse.

Alphonse was arrested and subsequently charged with possession of a controlled drug (cannabis), possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, and cultivation of a controlled plant (cannabis).

He appeared before the Second District Court in Vieux Fort on December 30, when a magistrate imposed bail conditions across the three charges. Bail was set at $3,000 cash or suitable surety, supported by land documents, for both possession charges, and $3,600 under similar terms for the cultivation charge.

In addition to the financial requirements, Alphonse must report to the Choiseul Police Station every Saturday between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. He is also required to surrender all travel documents and is prohibited from leaving Saint Lucia without explicit authorisation from the Court.
