The title of this set translates from Amharic as “Saviour Of The World”, and along with the sleeve illustration leaves no doubt that Mikey is totally committed to continuing his spiritual mission, though surely no-one would ever doubt his consistency or motivation – listen to Humble Calf.
With his clear singing style and a blend of songs old (like Road Of Life, Pay The Man and the solo piano accompanied, modern gospel-tinged ballad Never Alone with its astonishing vocal performance running to six and a half minutes) and new, over crisp, clean, nicely layered international roots reggae sounds. Take a listen to the opening track, Solace – this release is modern roots at its best – or the simply beautiful collaboration with the impressive Miriam Simone that is Breath Of Life, recorded at Bobby Digital’s studio, though much of the album was recorded mostly at Nayakaza Studios in Jamaica.
