By Zoila Palma:  The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and New Growth Industries (MAFSNGI), in partnership with the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), has launched a week-long training program on reproductive technology in livestock.

The training is being held at the Cayo Central Farm Extension Office Conference Room, from May 25 to May 29, 2026.

The initiative brings together extension officers from the Ministry, University of Belize Central Farm field technicians, and Belize Livestock Producers Association (BLPA) technicians to strengthen technical expertise in livestock management.

The training program was opened by Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson, and attended by Luis Alex Balona, Minister of State.

The training focuses on integrated forage management in monoculture systems to improve sustainability, nutritional conditioning of regional livestock to enhance productivity and capacity building to reduce inefficiencies in cattle and small ruminant milk and meat production.

The Ministry says that by equipping local technicians and extension officers with cutting-edge knowledge, the program aims to boost efficiency, improve livestock health, and contribute to the long-term resilience of Belize’s agricultural sector.
