Nakirya: We earned the point through preparation

Walking off the turf at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo on Saturday, St Noa Girls FC goalkeeper Lillian Nakirya beamed with a well-earned Player of the Match accolade draped over her shoulders. 

Her string of breathtaking saves had just anchored her side to a hard-fought 0-0 stalemate against KCCA Women FC in a Matchday Two encounter of the 2026/27 FUFA Women’s Super League.

Reflecting on the intense battle, Nakirya pointed directly to the collective effort behind her clean sheet.

“The game was so intense. It was at high speed. We managed to get one point due to the preparation of the coaches and other sports administration of St Noa,” Nakirya said after the match.

Her individual masterpiece was no accident. The standout shot-stopper revealed that clinching the game’s top individual honour had been firmly planted in her mind long before kickoff.

“Being the woman of the match, I’m so happy because it was my aim before the game. I’m really so grateful to be making those saves. My concentration was so high,” she added.

To keep KCCA’s potent attack at bay, Nakirya relied on a disciplined blend of physical attributes and leadership from the back. She credited her success to her agility, speed, and continuous dialogue with her backline.

“My agility, the speed, my communication because I was arranging my defenders so that they don’t give many shots onto the goal,” she explained.

The gritty 0-0 deadlock unfolded as St Noa effectively executed the disciplined low-block approach anticipated before kick-off, continually frustrating KCCA’s attempts to break through. Both managers ultimately pointed to poor finishing in front of goal as a major reason for the deadlock, leaving the two competitive sides to share the spoils.

The outcome leaves both KCCA and St Noa locked at four points after two matches, with each having conquered their opening fixtures. KCCA had previously launched their campaign with a 3-0 away victory over URA Ladies FC at Hamz Stadium, while St Noa Girls narrowly edged She Corporate 1-0 in Njeru.

The FUFA Women’s Super League will now pause for the upcoming international window before resuming domestic action next month.

When the league returns on Sunday, October 18, St Noa Girls will host Jinja United WFC at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku. A day before, KCCA Women FC will travel to Makerere University WFC, who will look to reset at the Nsibirwa Ground.
