By Zoila Palma: The National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC), with the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, launched the first child protection training session for teachers from Wesley College, Excelsior High School, and Gwen Lizarraga High School.
The NCFC explained that as mandatory reporters and a critical line of defense for vulnerable children, teachers play a vital role in recognizing signs of abuse, reporting concerns, and safeguarding children’s rights and well-being.
This initiative will strengthen educators’ knowledge of child protection, safeguarding, and their responsibilities under Belize’s child protection framework, with a total of 80 teachers expected to be trained to help ensure every child is protected, heard, and supported.
