NY’s Electrical Grid Warning: “The Dire News Coming From NYISO Should Be A Clarion Call To The State…”
Photos: YouTube Screenshots The following is a press release sent by Brooklyn Borough President, and former Lt. Governor Robert Duffy, regarding a troubling report by NYSIO (New York Independent Systems Operator) which warns that New York’s electrical grid is vulnerable to extreme weather: “The dire news coming from the NYISO should be a clarion call to the State Legislature to embrace Governor Hochul’s ‘all-of-the-above’ approach to energy generation. We have already seen the impact on working families of skyrocketing prices, but knowing the grid faces real reliability risks starting this summer cannot and should not be ignored. We know the system has come close to failing in the past, so there is no question this warning is real and fact-based. “We all remain committed to a cleaner, greener future and no one is advocating for changing course; just extending the course a little further into the future so we can achieve our goals without punishing working families with soaring prices or putting the grid at risk for failure. Without changes, no company is going to make the investments needed to repower energy plants or create new gas-powered plants — and we simply cannot and will not get to our goals economically by relying solely on renewable energy. We need a healthy mix — the ‘all of the above approach’ the Governor is rightly pushing.”
