Ogongo/Oshakati water pipeline to shut for 11 hours

Residents, schools and businesses supplied by the Ogongo-Oshakati pipeline will be without water for 11 hours on Wednesday.

NamWater announced on Monday that it will be carrying out work on a new pipeline.

NamWater spokesperson Lot Ndamanomhata said it will affect the Oshikuku, Omungwelume settlement, schools and communities receiving water from the Ogongo-Oshakati pipeline.

Ndamanomhata said the shutdown is to connect the existing water system to a new pipeline at Oshikuku and Oshuungu.

“This is part of the contractor work to finish the work, and it is necessary to improve water supply to the affected areas as we prepare for the summer season where the water demand is high,” he says.

He says its water supply operations along the Ogongo-Oshakati pipeline will be affected while the work is underway.

Although the notice schedules the interruption for 11 hours, NamWater also says the connection work is expected to take 18 hours.

Ndamanomhata says some areas may receive water later than others once supply resumes, depending on their distance from the main supply line.

NamWater has urged residents and other customers to use water sparingly during the interruption.
