Think back to E.U.’s 1988 hit song “Da Butt,” where the artist celebrates women for having a “big ole butt.” And naturally, as more songs celebrating booties emerged, dances were created putting them front and center. Eventually, a name was given to that style of dance, and it was called twerking and/or booty shaking.
Beyond music and dancing, rump shakers started to be welcomed in the fashion world too. Pieces like bodysuits, micro shorts, and sheer or skin-tight clothing came heavily into play—even in the designer world. After decades of praise from the Black community, other communities were influenced and began desiring the curvaceous body physique as well. Now butt shots and Brazilian Butt Lifts—most commonly known as BBL’s – have come into play, making it possible for anyone to get a bigger backside. No matter how you get it, if it looks good, it’s getting applause.
