Omuthiya constituency regional councillor Erastus Nekomba treated several public servants at the town and surrounding areas to lunch from vendors at the open market on Friday.

Nekomba says the initiative aims to provide an opportunity and create awareness among the local working class to normalise buying their lunch from local markets.

“This is a way of directly contributing to the livelihoods of small-scale traders,” he says.

Nekomba says the initiative also served as a gesture of solidarity with hardworking traders, whose businesses sustain many households within the constituency and Oshikoto region at large.

“This was indeed a commendable initiative as it created a valuable opportunity for officials and members of the community to interact, connect and share meaningful conversations while enjoying the delicacy of our community’s traditional cuisines.

“The gathering fostered a positive atmosphere and strengthened the spirit of unity and collaboration within our community,” he says.

Oshikoto regional council spokesperson Petrus Nehale says the initiative also assured the vendors and the community that it will done quarterly going forward.
