Our economic situation faces pressure from all angles. First and foremost, we continue to face flat diamond sales. And this is worrisome because diamonds have singularly powered Botswana’s success over the last four decades.
We literally came from nowhere but had by 2007 become an upper-middle-income country owing to handsome diamond revenues anchored by prudent macroeconomic policies. But the good old days are no more. Growth has stalled because of the very soft diamond market.
